Abstract
Mid November 2009 the DBLP computer science bibliography from the University of Trier lists 1.3 million publications. The database was started end of 1993 as a small bibliography focused to the fields of data base systems research (DB) and logic programming (LP).
Later the coverage of the collection has been expanded to many other areas of computer science (and the acronym lost it's meaning). But DBLP isn't a comprehensive system for all subfields of CS. An analysis by Brasilian researchers [1] shows that DBLP is weak for fields like robotics, operational research, or educational applications - the strongest subfield still is data base system research. Nevertheless DBLP data are used in many bibliometric evaluations.
The goal of the talk is to give some background information about the history and the current production of DBLP. This should help users to understand the limits of the data set and prevent wrong conclusions in evaluations based on DBLP.
