For the first time a Portuguese research team sequenced the complete
genome of an animal - Drosophila americana - which presents a huge
variation in longevity and, in this way, revels itself as a great
research model for genetic studies on aging. The team responsible for
this achievement involves researchers from CRACS-INESC Porto L.A., IBMC
and Instituteof Population Genetics in Austria (Institut für
Populationsgenetik). The main role of the researchers from CRACS in the
project is to perform the genome assembly and annotation. More
